🎓 The **University of Edinburgh** is planning '*massive course and programme closures*', the University and College Union has warned. - [Josh Pizzuto-Pomaco, The Herald](https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/26556881.massive-course-programme-closures-expected-edinburgh-university/?ref=edinburghminute.com). 

- Details of cuts to the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences departments have been outlined by the university in emails to staff, blaming '*clear areas of duplication, low student uptake, and courses that may be due for review or retirement*'.
- In a statement the uni admitted it was facing '*difficult choices*', adding: "*While closures are not unusual, decisions are never made lightly*."

👨‍🦯 A **visually impaired** Leith man has raised safety concerns about Leith Walk's pavement layout, inconsistent tactile paving and continuous footways over roads. 💰 Edinburgh's major **festival** leaders will unite for 'a *last-ditch plea*' to city councillors for a '*proportionate*' share of the new **tourist tax** income. - [Brian Ferguson, The Herald](https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/26555584.festivals-last-ditch-plea-proportionate-tourist-tax-share/?ref=edinburghminute.com).

🗳️ It's not just the big festivals appealing for more of the Third Party Cultural Grant Funding at today's council meeting. A collective of local creative organisations will also be making their case. Groups including North Edinburgh Arts, WHALE Arts, Craigmillar Now and Lyra will be represented. In a [deputation](https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/b28542/Deputations%2017th-Sep-2026%2010.00%20City%20of%20Edinburgh%20Council.pdf?T=9&ref=edinburghminute.com) from Morvern Cunningham and Eva Mckenzie, Co-Leads of the **Creative Community Hubs Network**, they'll say: 

> "*Investing in culture outside the city centre creates new ways for visitors to engage with our cultural city: more exhibitions, more shows, spread across Edinburgh in a way that doesn't overwhelm the city's infrastructure and benefits more people, residents and visitors alike*. *We have an opportunity to use the Visitor Levy to support community-based cultural organisations, to enable visitors to participate in the arts and culture, outwith the city centre."* 

They add: 

> "*We would hope that going forward, Edinburgh’s cultural reputation extends from the grassroots up, reaching residents and visitors deep into the city’s infrastructure and supporting a thriving cultural ecosystem for many years to come. Lastly, we would request that when the Council is consulting cultural institutions in the city such as the festivals and other creative organisations, they also include community-based cultural organisations. We need to have a voice!*"
