🌊 A 'pollution incident' resulted in Portobello beach being closed to swimmers over the weekend. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency website currently says: "We are currently advising against bathing or paddling."

 • Porty Surf Livesaving Club said: "It's a sad day really. It's just not good enough that we couldn't get the kids in the water because of a water pollution incident. It doesn't need to happen if there's sufficient investment. We're trying to teach kids water safety skills which we desperately need; two weeks ago there was a huge rescue effort. We're trying to teach kids skills to prevent that and yet we can't get in the water because it's dirty."

🍞 Twelve Triangles bakery co-founder Emily Cuddeford has spoken of her 'overwhelming heartbreak' having left the company after nearly 13 years. She wrote: "It has now ended, it shall remain private as to how it ended. I will always be grateful for my time at the bakery and everything I have learnt. We are two women who have built something I am incredibly proud of. It would be reductive to us both for there to be gossip or personal details attached to any of the conversations around this split or for it to detract from the success of the business and what has been achieved." - More details in Emily's post on Substack here.

Leaving Twelve Triangles.

Black Water + intro (Refugee Festival Scotland)
This month’s Doc Screen in collaboration with Take One Action presents the Edinburgh premiere of Black Water, a beautifully-crafted, human story from the frontlines of climate change. This event is part of Refugee Festival Scotland and it will feature an extended introduction and post-screening reflection on pathways to action. The film is also screening in Glasgow as part of the Southside Open-Air Cinema Day on 14th June.In southern Bangladesh, Lokhi and her family prepare to escape an extreme climate and flee to Dhaka - the fastest growing city in the world. A film about a future that is already a reality.Bangladesh is one of the places in the world most vulnerable to climate change. The coasts are low-lying and the areas near the river delta are vulnerable to rising sea levels, cyclones and storm surges. During the monsoon season, the country floods, rivers swell and change their channels, moving up to 20 meters each year. With the risk of a natural disaster hanging over their heads, Lokhi and her family are preparing to leave their home before everything washes away. They are migrating to Dhaka, and they are far from alone. Thousands of climate refugees arrive every day in the capital, but how long will Dhaka be able to accommodate so many people?By 2050, a large part of the southern coastline will be uninhabitable and 30 million people will be displaced, the largest mass migration in human history. Faced with this inevitable reality, Bangladeshis are fighting for climate justice and compensation before it is too late. This screening is part of Doc Screen, an initiative run by Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) in partnership with Filmhouse.
