🌌 A lot of readers kindly sent in photos of last night’s spectacular Northern lights over Edinburgh. Weather forecaster Sean Batty said the lights, also known as aurora borealis, “will likely become more common this winter and next so there’s plenty of time to catch them if you don’t manage tonight.” Thanks to Tom Duffin for sharing this selection:




🗑️ Forrester Park residents have successfully campaigned against new bin hubs. 🖼️ Look up while crossing the Commercial Street bridge at the Shore and you’ll spot a tiny new one-window gallery. Artist Wojtek Kutyla got in touch with the Minute to share more details about OKNO (‘window’ in Polish), which will showcase a different artist monthly. Wojtek says it’s: “an attempt at bridging the gap between Scotland's photography scene and the vibrant community outside the UK.” All work displayed is for sale, with 100% going to each artist. October hosts work by Warsaw-based photographer Josephine Tomaszewska. Wojtek adds: “Raise your head whilst crossing the bridge on the Shore, and you'll find it on the first floor, just above Hemingway's!”

🍞 Since selling their first loaf in 2017, Edinburgh’s Company Bakery now supply more than 200 businesses across Scotland and employ 55 people. “This is just the start,” says Ben Reade, who co-directs the firm with Hollie Love Reid (of Love Crumbs and Nice Times Bakery), and Amy and Duncan Findlater (of Smith & Gertrude). “The bread and baking scene in Edinburgh is off the charts”. - The List’s Donald Reid visited Company’s new Mussleburgh cafe to find out why.

🍸 After multi-million-pound renovation, The Caledonian on Lothian Road is opening The Court. 🍿 A fan of Lothian Road’s Filmhouse has recreated the cinema in their front room. The home setup includes a projector and ten of the cinema’s original Screen One red seats, which are currently being replaced as part of a major refurbishment. - A limited number of seats are still up for grabs as part of the charity’s fundraising drive here.
