🆕  News & happenings this week

💰 The Summerhall Arts charity members are in the final stages of agreeing terms on a three-year lease. The building is still up for sale, but the arts charity hopes to be able to work with new owners on delivering their entire artistic and events programme at Summerhall as planned. They’ve launched a bid to raise £500,000 from supporters. They said: “Summerhall Arts has been working closely with the current owners, building managers and the selling agent to look to provide a solution during the transition period and the potential to negotiate a longer-term future with any new owner once they have been identified, for the delivery of the arts and events for many years to come.”
⮑ The language on the JustGiving page is stark:

Help us Preserve the Future of the arts and events at Summerhall. This is a critical time; we desperately need to raise funds to preserve the annual programme of the arts and events at Summerhall following the announcement of the building being sold”.

🎭 The posters are up, venues are mostly almost ready, there’s a buzz in town. This year’s August festivals will officially begin on Friday, but many shows are already happening. Where to begin? The Culture Minute has you covered:
