About
The Edinburgh Minute exists to make it easier for you to find the news
The Edinburgh Minute is an independent newsletter publication launched in 2022 by Michael MacLeod, a local journalist with more than 20 years of media experience. The Minute aims to make it easier for you to find real local news written by real people. Expect links to every day's original journalism and community news. When you click the links, you help support local publishers too.

No AI, no algorithms and no ads.
The Minute is delivered every weekday at 7am. It's ad-free. No more worrying about whether you missed something because of pesky algorithms or clickbait-filled news feeds. Instead, I get up at 5am and check hundreds of local websites manually every morning and send you the links at 7am. I wade through all those awful adverts, clickbait headlines and pop-up auto-play videos so you don't have to. I actually love doing it because I know it's useful. Local news is broken. I can't fix all its problems but meantime I can do this. We all deserve better local news.
The Minute began on Substack and moved to Ghost in October 2025.
